The Prison of Your Own Mind-the Failure of Psychology

LIFE COACHING LESSONS-THE PRISON OF YOUR OWN MIND, AND HOW TO BREAK FREE-“You can be trapped; trapped in the prison of your own mind. You can be trapped and NOT EVEN REALIZE IT.” -Rich Dallas-Author/Editor of SagePath

You can become mired in your own irrationality: pride, lust, anger, bitterness, greed, gluttony, jealousy, and laziness. You can also be trapped in your ignorance. This clouds our perception of Truth. Add to that the confusion of various Psychological schools of thought:

YOUR MENTAL HEALTH AND WELL-BEING ARE AT RISK. There are over 250 separate schools of thought in the discipline we know as Psychology. Each school of thought, whether Psychodynamic, Neurobiological, Behavioral, Cognitive, Humanistic, etc. begins with presuppositions about mankind. Each school of thought decides what they consider to be human flourishing, which can’t be proven with certainty. In other words, they are unfounded. That means, that when you visit a therapist, you are toying with your mental health and well-being.

Each school of thought, in Psychology, begins with a set of philosophical speculations. These are speculations about “what makes your mind tick”. Then they decide what it takes to lead you to positive change. The methods used, to help you change for the better, flow from these presuppositions. A therapist will make his/her best-educated guess as to what your problem(s) are and how to “fix” you.

Many Psychologists will “BRISTLE” at the statement that they are supposed to FIX anyone. They don’t want to admit it, but yeah, as paid medical professionals, that’s what they are supposed to do. That’s the reason their fee is paid for by most health insurance. They are supposed to help you solve your problems, so you are happier, healthier, and more successful. They are expected to know how to help you treat and reduce your suffering, anxiety, depression, etc. Medication is only a temporary fix.

On the one hand, Psychologists/Psychiatrists want to get paid to help you solve your problems. On the other hand, they want to abdicate responsibility for actually making a positive difference. That way, they avoid being held accountable for FAILING to produce real results.

Within Psychology, there are over 250 separate schools of thought (most of which cannot agree with one another) each espousing a different set of ideas as to what man’s goal should be, and how to help you “transform”.

NO WONDER PEOPLE POPULARLY REFER TO PSYCHOLOGISTS/PSYCHIATRISTS as “Head Shrinkers“; as if they were VooDoo Witch Doctors. It is difficult to conclude that Psychology is a “Science”.

Unless you have an injury or an organic brain disorder (Injury, Autism, Dementia, etc.) simple conversation is the method relied upon by Mental Health Professionals. Through the last hundred years or so of the profession, Psychologists have referred to this as THE TALKING CURE. (Notice the word: “CURE“) In many cases, the first inclination is to medicate…useful in the short run, and they may help you calm down and focus, but that doesn’t get to the root of the problem.

The alternative to mankind’s best, and largely unsuccessful, attempts at SELF TRANSFORMATION, is the transformation promised by the word of God. This transformation is accomplished through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The word “GOSPEL” means Good News. The Gospel provides a transformative framework. It is sound advice for how to live well. It is a workable philosophy of life.

Step 1 in SageCraft Christian Life Coaching: “Get ’em Saved” They MUST have a personal relationship with God, through the Risen Savior, Jesus Christ.

Christianity, The Gospel of Jesus Christ, is even more than “Good news, That Leads to Eternal Life”. The Ten Commandments, the Sermon on the Mount, and the teachings of Jesus Christ provide the keys to deep, significant, satisfying, real, and lasting positive change. They are better “Psychology” and can be deeper, and more THERAPEUTIC, than any form of Psychology or Psychiatry.

growth. (Funny how my last name is the same as his FIRST)-Rich Dallas

Living by the precepts of the Gospel of Jesus Christ has a healing, transformative power, all its own, that will help free you from the prison of your mind. It takes work, but over time, all the depression, anxiety, and “mental anguish”, will melt away. What you’ll be left with is an abundance of “Fruit of the Spirit“: Gal 5:22-23:

  • Love
  • Joy
  • Peace
  • Patience
  • Kindness
  • Goodness
  • Faithfulness
  • Gentleness
  • Self Control

Who doesn’t want more of THESE in their life?
