A SELF-HELP PRESCRIPTION FOR DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY:
Use this as a “Self Help” exercise: Desiderata-this piece of poetry, combined with the 23rd Psalm, is absolutely THERAPEUTIC! I have seen extraordinary results from this simple exercise:
DON’T JUST “MOUTH THE WORDS. THINK THE THOUGHTS BEHIND THEM! KEEP REPEATING THESE TWO WORKS, UNTIL YOU MEMORIZE THEM! PRINT THEM OUT, AND READ THEM ALOUD TO YOURSELF (AND EACH OTHER). RECORD THEM ON YOUR PHONE AND LISTEN TO THE REPEATEDLY.
BEGIN TO “ACT AS IF” THESE WORDS ARE TRUE!
GRADUALLY, OVER A PERIOD OF TIME, YOU WILL NOTICE AN UNMISTAKABLE SHIFT IN YOUR THINKING. BUT YOU MUST DO THIS FAITHFULLY, AND NOT “HALFHEARTEDLY”…
… “YOU WILL FEEL “LESS BOTHERED” BY CIRCUMSTANCES. INSULTS OR SLIGHTS WILL BEGIN TO ROLL OFF OF YOU. AS YOU INSTILL THESE THOUGHTS IN YOURSELF, YOU WILL BEGIN TO FEEL LESS ANXIETY/WORRY. IRRITATION AND ANGER WILL WEAKEN IT’S GRASP ON YOU. EPISODES OF DEPRESSION WILL BECOME A BIT MORE TOLERABLE EVERY DAY” –Rich Dallas-Author/Editor of SageCraft
